Luke’s story is about independence after loss, safety without losing freedom, and the importance of living in a home that supports both personal independence and family’s peace of mind.
My name is Luke. I always wanted some sort of independence and was able to come in contact with Paramount and found my current home.

How has the location of your new home made life easier or more convenient for you?

What made here so attractive was that my sister is only 15 - 20 minutes away, so she does a lot of work that actually makes it easier on her. But what makes it easier on her as well is to know that where I am is safe. The property which I’m now in is also close to the shops. It is near a dog park as well, so I get to walk the dog twice a day.

Can you share what it was like working with Paramount Disability Homes to find your new home?

When we come in touch with Paramount, even when there was an issue, or if there has been a problem, they've always been more than happy to fix it to the best for both of us. When there has been an issue or something hasn't been right, Paramount always very quick to try and work it out for the best for both of us. So it's not always been what's been best for Paramount, but yet they have been happy to try to accommodate me in that.

Luke Truscott has always had a deep passion for motorsport. For much of his life, cars were not just a hobby, but a major part of his identity. He built race cars, owned race cars, and raced them himself. However, later in life, Luke developed a neurological disease, which significantly changed what he was able to do and affected the independent lifestyle he had previously known.
For many years, Luke lived with his mother, who provided a great deal of support in his day-to-day life. Although his family, particularly his sister, remained incredibly supportive, Luke was determined to continue living with as much independence as possible. After his mother sadly passed away, Luke realised how much she had been helping him with everyday tasks such as medication, cleaning, washing, food preparation, and general household support.
Although Luke knew he would always be welcome to live with his sister, he did not want to feel like a burden. He wanted to maintain his own space, his own routine, and his own independence for as long as possible. With the support of his sister, he began searching for a suitable home that would meet his needs while also giving his family peace of mind.
Luke’s current home has become a strong fit for his lifestyle. It is located close to shops, is in a newer building, and has concierge support available downstairs. This gives Luke and his family reassurance that, if he needs assistance, he can press the emergency button and someone will come to support him. Importantly, this support is available without taking away his independence, as he does not have staff around him constantly throughout the day.
